So, I'm going to quit my job.

That much is not in question – I will be quitting. The job does not fit me, leaves me too exhausted to do much else with my time, and one of the people in charge wants me gone, I'm pretty certain. Plus, I've got what I need out of the job – when I came to London, I had held no paying job not got via a friend of the family or being a placement where the money paid is to support, rather than fully recompense. I've now had four and a half months in a hard job, and passed my probation in it.

The question now, is when do I quit?

I'm currently waiting to hear back from a gaming store called Playin' Games (near the British Museum) whether I've got a job with them. I'd hoped to hear back today on that one, then I'd be quitting tommorrow if I got told today yes, or on Wednesday if it took me till tommorrow to find out yes or no – if I don't get the job I'll be jobsearching instead. I've now been told Thursday through Monday for it (they seem a little disorganised with their timing).

Originally, the plan was wait till today or tommorrow to find out about it, quit on Tuesday or Wednesday, regardless of the answer. The reason for waiting for the answer before quitting was so that I could quit into the new job, which I would somewhat prefer, plus it'd be nicer on my immediate supervisor. Now, it's going to be rather loonger till I find out, and due to various things, I'm rather less bothered by the 'nicer on the supervisor' part.

Therefore, the question is:

Protip: Use your infuriation with your current job/supervisor to fuel your enthusiasm and determination to receive confirmation for your new, better job.

I am always a quivering ball of infuriation, enthusiasm and determination. Three to seven days is a long time, but it is also no time at all.

I voted for Thursday at the latest (option 3) as a more conservative answer because I'm not sure how tight you are for cash. Considering we all know this job is driving you insane I think it's best if you escape while you still have some sanity. You still might have to serve some weeks notice, and if your living in London and make sure you actively seek work all the time I can't think you'd be unemployed for a long time. But then again, I'm not aware of the sorts of skills you have.

If you start starving just pop over for dinner and Martin and I will feed you! I don't want my friend going insane! :o)

Won't be able to claim for an uncomfortably long time - something like six months, I believe.

It's a small world. I worked in Playin' Games for ~7 years. Only Saturdays, mind you, but a long time nonetheless. Consequently I know a dozen if not more people who have also previously worked there, I'm pretty sure none of the existing staff would know me.

As a "serious" job I can't recommend it, but as long as you avoid accepting any real measure of responsibility it can be a lot of fun and often doesn't feel like work at all. Especially as the merchandise is something you can more easily take an interest in.
