Doing it wrong
Jul. 18th, 2010 04:40 amDear TFL,
I am an enthusiastic supporter of your proposed London bicycle hire scheme, and plan to make use of it when it comes into effect.
However... it would be useful for all of those of us who are using the scheme because we're not current bicycle users, to include on the maps of the local area you have on the hire pillar, things like ONE WAY ROADS. Rather than just copying across the pedestrian maps you've used for other things.
On the other hand, I must say I'm truly impressed by the list of titles your form can accept. Though as my friends point out, it lacks the option to input your own if you select 'other', and while you can be an Empress or a Marquess, you can't be an Emperor (That's Heresy!) or a Marquis.

The Guardian being a bit snooty – you can argue either way about specifics of politics, but I consider saying the Prime Minister doesn't do anything useful to be a bit disingenuous.

Rather creepy (and very NSFW) – photos of a RealDoll factory. Via

Tweeted this a while back, but it could probably use all the viewing it can get – Drowning doesn't look like drowning – People don't thrash, and they don't call for help.

I feel virtuous
Jun. 28th, 2010 08:14 pmToday, I swam about half a kilometre. Due to changing lanes and snapping hairband, I'm not entirely sure of how many lengths I did, but it was near or over 20, on a 25-27 metre pool.
Given I've not swum in many years, and beyond a tendency to walk rather than bus/tube where practical (i.e. I'll walk from Kings Cross/Russel Square to Oxford Street Tube station, but I'll bus/tube to Aldgate or Stratford), I've not actively exercised in quite a while, I am fairly chuffed with myself.
I'm also thinking that, based on the current twinges in my arms, I'm going to ache tommorrow. And I may well not go for 20 lengths the next time I swim. But doing that much on the first time is a good sign to myself that yes, I can do this, so I don't regret it.
