Censorship reducing?

Interesting.

google.cn appears less censored than it was - it's showing stuff relating to the protest/massacre, which I'm fairly sure it didn't used to be. Comparing it to google.com it seems to be mostly the same thing.

Of course, this may be just because I'm coming from and IP address outside china, and inside you'd get something quite different.

Off to London tommorrow. Hopefully I'll find some interesting stuff to do appart from the talks I'm going to. I may well go and take a look at where I'll be living in a few months, just to remind myself of where it is, what the area's like.

From what I recall, the difference wasn't so much between the Google search results and the Google image search results. As you can see the differences between the .cn image search and a regular .com image search, there's still some censorship issues.

True, though arguably the fact that there is still a picture of the Tank Man on that one, combined with the fact that it's still a heavily used part of the city, could mean that it's partly just what is relevant to the area, as well as the government jumping up and down about it.

There are other reasons that could explain the differences between the two, but looking back on it, the Google image search was the one that was used as the original example of censorship on google.cn, rather than the web search feature.

Yeah. Well, barring attack of giant radioactive space penguins or somesuch. My mum worked in London for a long time after we moved to Hereford, and we were able to get a reasonably central flat for her to live in due to us being selling a house in Islington. And we've still got the flat - the last few years its been rented out to various people, but as its in my and my brothers name, I was able to go "Don't rent it out to anyone new and don't renew the contract, when the current person moves out, I'm moving in.".

Handily, the end of their tenancy coincides reasonably well with the end of my degree.
