It’s comments like this one from the Pope that remind me that I have a very different idea of what humanity is and what the Good Life is from other people. There will be people who hear that this announcement from the Pope and think he’s absolutely right, homosexuality is a threat to humanity.

I’m struggling to see how the future of humanity (as I conceive it) could be affected by gay marriage. Harder yet, I’m struggling to get my own head into a space where I can think about the question of gay marriage (or similar issues) from the point of view who would consider gay marriage to be one of the most significant threats to the dignity of humanity.

In contrast, I can see why some people might have concerns about genetic modifications of humans. If we change our genes and become different are we still human? What is “human”? I can see how people might take a very different view from my own.

One to ponder.
