It's one of the better summaries of the whole thing though. It's now an "identity service" instead of a social network, or something, but...

(I still login every few hours, but only to play a game, haven't looked at my stream in a few weeks).

Aye, the 'not much more' wasn't meant as a criticism of it, just as a warning that most of the interesting content was already reproduced, so people weren't suprised/annoyed if they clicked it.

TBH it was mostly me being lazy —it's the sort of quote/reblog that would be better passed on by making an entry and saying "reblogging [name]" — but it was easier and quicker to add it to Delicious.

I would be much more outraged at the Al Jazeera story if the journo had actually followed standard procedures here and secured permission first, rather than just rocking up and asking if he could film a bunch of minors and ask families questions on a highly sensitive topic for a major news corporation.

That's a reasonable point, but I'd be more concerned about that side of it if that was the reason he was given when he was there for not being allowed to film/do anything.

From what they said he wasn't given a reason at all. The principal started changing her mind when she found out that he was from Al Jazeera, but the super gave no reason. The comments made sound like it was likely at least a partially racist response, but that isn't explicit. Maybe the principal assumed he was a local newscaster and then was perturbed when she found out he was from a major international corporation and thought she'd better check with the super. Maybe given that there have been accusations about anti-American bias at Al Jazeera, they felt they couldn't give permission on the spot without checking with the school district lawyers and doing more research. Instinctively, I don't like the turn of events at the football match very much, but I think assumptions have been made on both sides and turning it into an article is irresponsible.
