Alternative medical treatments rarely work. But the placebo effect they induce sometimes does. There's a "Professor of Alternative Medicine" out there. Who's going around testing 'em all. And finding that 95% are bunkum, but there's still that useful 5%, as well as useful information about the placebo effect.
