So, a friend of mine is running an oWoD game. And I am struggling with coming up with a concept. Thus, I thought I'd turn to your friend and mine, the internet, for help!

The game is an old World of Darkness game, that is explicitly open to characters from different types working together as the party. The 'core' venue is Vampire, which means that those unwilling to work/interact with such (most Garou, Mokole, Amenti Mummies, Hunters) are probably out.

Beyond that, the stated focus of the game is "Investigation and combat", not necessarily in that order. Some big thing has happened that changes the playing field (in an as yet unspecified way), in the world of Darkness. The character needs to be able to be found by/find/wander into the situation where people are being gathered to look at this. Basic oWoD character generation, but you get 50 freebie points rather than 15, though you're still stuck at starting limitations on Rank, Generation, Arete, Balance,

At the moment I would like to play a character who is:

a) A bastard – Not evil and destroying the world, but selfish, willing to kill and be nasty to achieve his aims, not compassionate.

b) Hitty. Someone competent at beating the crap out of people as and when it becomes necessary.

c) As a general rule I like 'effective' characters – characters that can have a real effect on the world, hold their own in a fight, and so forth.

The thoughts I've had so far are:

A Teomalki – South American Undying, who's a lore bunny and who wanders the world learning about supernatural stuff so that he can inform and protect his people from such when it encroaches upon their world. Put off of this by the fact that the power set for these guys isn't actually that good – there's a few useful things, but the majority of the powers are quite nicely thematic, but not actually good for being an effective.

A Lasombra – Abyss Mysticism + Potence. Messing with the shadow, and beating the crap out people, either with the Abyss, or with a crowbar. Is a possibility, but I'd somewhat like to play a non-vampire, at least partly so that the current non-vampire isn't the only one of such.

Edit: It's not power set, or even bastardry that is the what I'm really asking people for — it's a concept that makes me go "Ooh, I can do something with that. Then comes the bastardry and efficiency tests. I can make my own efficiency, so long as the power set supports it.

The Celican concept, for instance, I rather liked - a private detective celican. Big on Lores, has some hedge magic, can still rip your face off. But it fails the bastardry test, as I don't see a way to be enough of a bastard with it and still keep what I like about the concept. Whereas the Teomalki concept is interesting and bastardly, but the powers don't support what I want to do with the character.

So, throw concepts at me people!
