I am victorious. Eventually
Mar. 4th, 2008 03:10 amHmm, my computer is strange. while it doesn't have the random mass of wires everywhere that made changing stuff in the old one hard, that's largely because its cables are fixed to the side, making adding any new stuff require prying them off.
And for some reason it has refused to let me connect the HD of my old computer through the secondary IDE port, every time it should connect it up, it instead loses the DVD drive.
So, eventually we gave up on the sensible optioons, and the HD in question is now connected as a slave to the DVD drive's IDE cable, which means that it's resting diagonally, completely unsecured, in the space where my 4 spare CD/DVD drives could go (yes, I do have that many spare, I was planning to stick one or two of them in the new 'putie so I could cross-copy and/or have multiple games on the go without swapping disks, but it appears that may be harder than expected.
Many thanks to Mr
mapp for guiding me remotely through all this, may it hereby be witnessed that I owe him a pint.
